Biography

Alejandro Grosso Laguna, born in Buenos Aires, graduated in Musical Education at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Buenos Aires in 1989. He holds a degree level in Music by University of Évora (2007). From late 2007 he conducted a collaborative study between University of Évora (UE) and Universidad de La Plata (UNLP) on “Revision of communication problems in the context of technical dance classes from the perspective of the dance musician”, with a PhD fellowship (Foundation for Science and Technology - FCT), and completed his PhD on Theater Studies at the UE in 2013. Alejandro Laguna is currently (2015- ) Postdoctoral researcher and FCT fellow studying ‘Communication aspects of multimodal expressive performance “Crossing issues between propositional and not propositional content”, under the supervision of Professor Jorge Salgado Correia, PI of the "Creation, Performance and artistic research" group of INET-md and co-supervision of Professor Favio Demián Shifres, researcher at I&D Laboratorio para el Estudio de la Experiencia Musical (LEEM), Department of music (DM), Facultad de Bellas Artes of UNLP. He is also a team member of the project PICT-2013-0368 ‘Communicative Musicality In the Time Arts and Early Childhood’ funded by Agencia Nacional de Promoción de Ciencia y Tecnología (Argentina), currently being developed at LEEM. His research addresses musicality communication issues concerning the reciprocal interactions between dance musicians and dancers in ecological and metric contexts, through quantitative microanalysis of respective multimodal behaviors using zero-velocity visual-spatial indicators. http://visual-spatial-indicators.tumblr.com The development of research and the results achieved at the postdoctoral level have led to a new line of research, the qualy-quantitative analysis of the relation music-movement in the context of the tango couple, trying to understand the diversity of the expressive and stylistic peculiarities of this dance. These new developments that result from the crossing of different methodological resources and different epistemological foundations have opened the possibility of this investigation to become applied research, and may have a significant impact on pedagogical implications for non-verbal learning processes in the areas of dance and on the training of professional dancers. This body of cognitive research is further supported by the investigator's knowledge and experience throughout his 16-year-old career as a Dance Musician, Tango Dancer and Teacher, collaborative works with tango choreographer and dancer Milena Plebs, studies in advanced Gyrotonic and fundamentals of classic technique with Barbora Hruskova, principal dancer Companhia Nacional de Bailado and the university experience in musical work in the context of dance technique classes with the dancer Antonio Carallo (Wuppertal Tanztheater-Pina Bausch).
