Sofia began her musical studies at Escola de Música Nossa Senhora do Cabo, Linda-a-Velha, where she completed the Piano Course. She studied at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where she completed a degree in Music Education and Choral Condunting and a Master's in Music Education. She attended one year in the Erasmus program at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music – Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music (Hungary). She has been participating in professional enrichment courses, such as “I Jornadas de Formação Musical” with Helena Caspurro, “Improvisação Vocal” with Tiago Grade, “Educação Kodály: music in general and specialized education” with Lazló Nemes, “The King's Singers Summer School” (United Kingdom), “International Vocal Music Course” variant Choral Conducting guided by Paulo Lourenço (Aveiro) and “Active Musical Pedagogy Course” with Jos Wuytack. She is currently a professor of Music Education at the Academia de Música de Santa Cecília and Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional.
