Biography
Helena Vasques de Carvalho has been a Music lecturer at College level for about thirteen years; she was the Head of Music Department at ISEIT - PIAGET Institute in Almada, Lisbon, and currently is the national representative of ABRSM – Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.
Helena holds a PhD in Sociology of Art - "Performing artists and professional careers" from ISCTE – Lisbon, Portugal. Her major research field relates to artists´ professions and market economy, vocational and professional development and performing arts in the creative agenda. She is the president of the Portuguese Cultural Diversity Coalition (UNESCO 2005) and has worked with artists issues since 2005. Her research focus on issues related to performing arts and artists, such as working conditions, copyrights or artists career development. Qualified to Masters of Music (MM) in Piano Performance from the University of Tennessee, USA, and Diploma from the Lisbon Conservatory, Portugal, Helena Vasques is also an accomplished musician and pianist. She played frequently with Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Orquestra Gulbenkian as orchestra pianist, and was involved in many chamber music groups.
