The University of Massachusetts Lowell hosted two events this past April dedicated to the promotion of Portuguese music, organized by Inês Thomas Almeida (INET-md) as part of the Lusophone Music and Cultures seminar, taught by the researcher currently serving as a Visiting Professor at the university.

The celebration included a lecture by Rui Vieira Nery (INET-md), entitled Music in Camões – Camões in Music, followed by a concert titled Five Centuries of Portuguese Music, featuring organist João Vaz, the UMass Lowell Chamber Singers conducted by Jonathan Richter, and Inês Thomas Almeida.

Both the lecture and the concert were supported by Camões I.P., the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Luso-American Development Foundation, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell. They were met with great success by the academic community—including Sue J. Kim, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at UML—and completely filled the Moloney Performing Arts Center on April 13.
