Talk-ip!: Traditional music revival in Georgia on example of folk-fusion music
Teona Lomsadze, Erasmus exchange student at the University of Aveiro, presents the lecture "Traditional music revival in Georgia on example of folk-fusion music", included in the new Post-ip talk series, talk-ip! Georgian traditional music revival is characterized by multiple aspects and several different layers can be found in it. I identify three major layers there: 1. Stage performance of original folk music; 2. Contemporary folk flavored music, so called “Pseudo folklore” in every-day life; 3. Folk-fusion music, which represents the result of the synthesis of Georgian music (mostly traditional) and different directions of WesternPopular music (Jazz, rock, pop, electronic music etc.). Analyzing the latter musical layer represents the main subject of my presentation.
