Abstract

Teona Lomsadze, Erasmus exchange student at the University of Aveiro, presents the lecture "Traditional music revival in Georgia on example of folk-fusion music", included in the new Post-ip talk series, talk-ip! Georgian traditional music revival is characterized by multiple aspects and several different layers can be found in it. I identify three major layers there: 1. Stage performance of original folk music; 2. Contemporary folk flavored music, so called “Pseudo folklore” in every-day life; 3. Folk-fusion music, which represents the result of the synthesis of Georgian music (mostly traditional) and different directions of Western[1]Popular music (Jazz, rock, pop, electronic music etc.). Analyzing the latter musical layer represents the main subject of my presentation.
