October 17th, 2018 | 15:00 - 17:00 | Auditorium DeCA | Universidade de Aveiro

Abstract
On the 17th October, at 3 PM, a party marking the beginning of the research project "Xperimus - Experimentation in music in Portuguese culture: history, contexts and practices in the 20th and 21st centuries" will take place on the Auditorium at the Department of Communication and Art, UA. Under the motto "Vamos xperimentar?" (Let's xperiment?), the event includes a jam session and a coffee break. Free admission.
In the Portuguese cultural context, experimentation in music is an area scarcely studied, as most studies address specific composers or restricted contexts, but do not engage with the area as a potential continuum of practices. This project will thus focus on experimentation in music in the Portuguese context from the second half of the 20th century to the 21st century, in order to contribute to an integrated research outlook of its history, contexts and practices.
Xperimus starts in October 2018 and will last 3 years. The project is co-funded by the European Union, though the Operational Program Competitiveness and Internationalization, from ERDF, and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
The principal researcher is Helena marinho, Assistant Professor at DeCA and researcher at INET-md, Institute of Ethnomusicology - Centre for Studies in Music and Dance (UA branch).
