TeDance: Technologically Expanded Dance

Between November 22nd and 24th, 2007 | Culturgest

From the 22nd to the 24th of November, Culturgest hosted an International Conference held within the framework of the TeDance project - Technologically Expanded Dance - carried out in collaboration with INET-MD. The project departed from the premise that the real and the virtual world can touch and interact. That is also the unpredictable encounter between dance and technology which draws on new possibilities and aesthetic implications. Some of the questions addressed by the project and in the conference are: What features may arise from the technological expansion of dance? Is there such a complete symbiosis as to lead into the reconfiguration of our notions of stage, body and even Man?
The TeDance conference was organized around paper presentations, discussion panels, installations and performances. It took place in the small Auditorium and Rooms 2,3,4,5 and 6 of Culturgest.

Launched in 2005 by academics and creators linked to the performing arts, IT engineering and biomechanics, this challenge to science via the arts, and vice versa, is based on choreography animation, movement capture and enhanced reality, adding to an ongoing international debate. Subjects include polinization between the arts, movement capture/storage systems, technology and aesthetics, and virtual and enhanced reality in the performing arts. It includes paper presentations, debates and round table discussions.
