About this Group

Created in 1995, this is the foundational research group of INET-md, devoted to consolidating and expanding research in music and sound from the perspectives of Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies, with a special focus on Portuguese-speaking contexts. This group develops research in music and sound related to, among other: heritage, archives and museums; power, politics and activism; migration and the diaspora; technology, media and the music industries; women, gender and sexuality; emotion, health and well-being; tourism and urban renewal.

This is a highly dynamic international research group in the composition of its team as well as in its engagement with international scholarly societies, and its publications, conference presentations and organization of international scholarly meetings. The group also partnered with numerous local and national institutions (research centers, museums, municipal and national governments, voluntary associations, etc.) that result in research outputs that respond to and engage with local needs and aspirations.
