Eduardo Falcão

A historian and musician, he holds a PhD in Music, specialising in Ethnomusicology (2025), from the University of Aveiro. His thesis, entitled Agapito de Miranda, creator of memories: the personal songbooks of a 20th-century collector of songs from Goa, was carried out with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG-PGLCP/2017/210476:2018) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (SFRH/BD/144797/2019).

He holds a Master’s degree in History and Heritage from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Porto, where he submitted his dissertation entitled Everyone Became a Fado Singer: Resonances of the process of designating Fado as cultural heritage in the city of Porto. He also holds a postgraduate qualification in Music, specialising in popular guitar, from the São Paulo State School of Music (EMESP).

Focusing on South Asia, his research explores musical practices at the intersection of history, ethnomusicology and heritage studies. His publications stem from extensive fieldwork in India, Portugal and Brazil. As a historian, he was part of the team that edited the Portuguese version of UNESCO’s General History of Africa, published in Brazil in 2010. As a string player, he actively participates in various musical projects, playing the Indian sitar, bouzouki, cavaquinho and acoustic guitar. He was a research fellow on the project: Liber Sound. Innovative archival practices for the liberation of sound memory. Recorded music, transcontinental experience, connected communities. As a musician, he was also part of the artistic team for the project Sounds with Taste of Home.
