Pedro Moreira
Biography
Pedro Moreira is an Assistant Professor (Professor Auxiliar) at Universidade de Évora/Escola de Artes, Portugal, where he teaches several courses such as Ethnomusicology, Sociology of Music, Initiation to Research in Music and Musicology, amongst others. He is currently (since 2025) sub-director of the School of Arts – Universidade de Évora, and co-coordinator of the branch of the Centre for Music Studies (CESEM – Universidade de Évora).
He holds a degree in Musicology (Ciências Musicais) and a PhD in Ethnomusicology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and his an integrated member of CESEM (Centre for Music Studies). In his PhD research, he focused on Portuguese National Radio (Emissora Nacional) and popular music production during the Portuguese Authoritarian Regime, specifically the 1930s and 1940s.
He completed his postdoctoral research at Universidade Nova de Lisboa – FCSH – INET-md, focusing on the identity representations of the Portuguese community in Paris through radio. His main research and publication topics concern popular music, radio/media, cultural policy, and the uses of folklore in Portugal during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as Soundscapes and Community Music. He published several articles, books, book chapters.
