On 23 October, INET-md welcomed Brazilian researcher Viviane Beineke, a professor in the Department of Music at Santa Catarina State University (UDESC) and a specialist in creative music learning and music teacher education. Her visit took place as part of the Permanent Seminar of the Research Group on Education, Music and Theatre in the Community, held at the Department of Communication and Art (DeCA) of the University of Aveiro.

In her presentation, Musical Creativities in Music Education Research: Critical Perspectives in Dialogue, Beineke explored theoretical, methodological, and epistemological approaches to research on musical creativity, drawing on studies of creative learning and music-making practices with children.

The presentation highlighted emerging research perspectives that understand musical creativities as culturally situated practices, shaped by different social and educational contexts. Topics included creative-decolonial music education, Afro-diasporic musical cultures, critical interculturality, migrant childhoods, and the development of more inclusive and participatory educational practices.

Beineke also examined the relationships between creative music learning, Paulo Freire’s thought, decoloniality, and education for ethnic-racial relations, emphasising the importance of questioning established research frameworks and broadening the ways in which knowledge is understood and produced in music education.

Viviane Beineke leads the Inventa Music Education Research Group at UDESC, where her research focuses on music teaching methodologies, creative music learning, and teacher education. She holds a PhD in Music from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and conducted postdoctoral research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. She has published extensively in the field of school music education.

Her visit to INET-md provided an opportunity to strengthen academic dialogue between Brazilian and Portuguese research perspectives, fostering international exchanges on creativity, music education, and critical pedagogical practices
