About
Thematic Objective
The main objective of INET-md is to advance transdisciplinary research, artistic creation, and performance in the fields of music and dance, in collaboration with national and international institutions.
A significant component of this activity is dedicated to artistic production and research in music, an area that has experienced sustained growth over recent years, as reflected in the increased capacity to attract external funding. At the University of Aveiro branch of INET-md, these activities are primarily developed at the Center for Research in Electroacoustic Music (CIME) and in the Auditorium of the Department of Communication and Art. In this context, investment in ambisonics sound systems constitutes a strategic priority, as such systems enable immersive 360-degree sound capture and reproduction, while fostering innovative approaches to artistic creation and research.
Additional areas of activity include research on sound production and perception grounded in physical and psychoacoustic principles, as well as artistic research in music and dance, all of which require substantial investment in multimedia equipment and advanced technological resources.
The activities developed within these laboratories intersect with all INET-md Research Groups and campuses, and their outcomes are disseminated to both the academic community and the wider public through specialized infrastructure and equipment.
INET-md currently comprises seven laboratories: the Audio Laboratory (LA), the Video Laboratory (LV), the Musical Acoustics Laboratory (LAM), the Center for Research in Electroacoustic Music (CIME), Xperimus Lab, the Performing Arts Laboratory (CEAP), and the Music Teaching and Learning Laboratory (LAbEAMUS).
Scientific Areas
Music, Dance, Sound Studies, and Interdisciplinary Artistic Research
Project Summary
INET-md’s laboratory and archival work is reflected in the development of research and artistic creation activities in the fields of music and dance and maintenance of libraries, archives, and databases, including the José Mário Branco Documentation Centre, the José Duarte Collection, the Jazz Studies Centre, and digital platforms such as INETBase and INETMoz, in articulation with open science initiatives such as the ROSSIO platform.
Within the scope of the present funding, INET-md reinforces its commitment to laboratory-based activities, structuring them around five key objectives: to ensure permanent human resources dedicated to laboratory operations; to upgrade equipment and guarantee adequate operating conditions; to promote the provision of services to external entities; to foster the development of training provision centred on laboratory work; and to consolidate transdisciplinary teams with the capacity to attract competitive funding.
