INET-md’s researcher presents book at HONK! Festival
Andrew Snyder was invited to participate in the “HONK! U – A Conference Celebrating 20 Years of Street Music Activism” conference at Tufts University in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA, to discuss his research on Rio de Janeiro’s carnival and activist brass band movement, which is part of the global network of festivals called HONK!
Along with the other editors of HONK! A Street Band Renaissance of Music and Activism (Routledge 2020), Prof. Reebee Garofalo (U Mass Boston) and Dr. Erin Allen (Ohio State University), they took the opportunity to launch their book about the HONK festival at the festival in person, which had been impossible due to the pandemic. The book contributes to Andrew’s longstanding interest in the cultural politics of festivity as well as INET-md thematic line on Power, Politics and Activism.
