Gerardo Costábile Nicoletta begins SonErg project at INET-md 

Gerardo Costábile Nicoletta begins his SonErg project at INET-md on 1 October, with support from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Focusing on traditional woodwind instruments from Southern Italy, SonErg explores how energy transitions shape – and are shaped by – musical practices, traditional ecological knowledge, and everyday life in rural communities. Bringing together ethnomusicology, energy and environmental humanities, cultural heritage, and craft knowledge, the project examines how instruments, materials, techniques, and soundscapes have changed across pre-industrial, fossil-fuel, and renewable-energy eras. SonErg will also involve the collaborative creation of archives with instrument makers and musicians, alongside exhibitions, performances, and a digital platform, contributing to wider debates on decarbonisation, energy justice, cultural heritage, and the value of rural knowledge in imagining more sustainable and place-based energy futures.
