INET-md and CESEM to host the 22nd Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music at the Royal Building of Mafra
INET-md – Institute of Ethnomusicology – Centre for Studies in Music and Dance and CESEM – Centre for the Study of the Sociology and Aesthetics of Music, research centres at NOVA University Lisbon, will host the 22nd Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music, taking place from 21 to 25 July 2027 at the Royal Building of Mafra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The conference provides an international forum for scholarly research across all areas of Baroque music and will take place entirely at the Royal Building of Mafra.
The Call for Papers is now open, welcoming proposals in any area of Baroque music. In view of the conference setting, submissions focusing on music libraries, performance practice and spaces, and instruments are particularly encouraged.
Proposals may be submitted for individual papers of 20 minutes, lecture-recitals of 30 minutes, and themed or round-table sessions of 90 minutes.
Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words for individual papers and lecture-recitals and 350 words for round-table sessions. Lecture-recital proposals should also list the repertoire and include a link to a sample recording.
The conference language is English, although abstracts may also be submitted in French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish.
Proposals must be submitted by midnight UTC on 15 January 2027 through the conference submission platform.
The Organizing Committee comprises Cristina Fernandes (co-Chair), Andrew Woolley (co-Chair), Zuelma Chaves, Vera Inácio Cordeniz, Inês Galvão and Tiago Manuel da Hora.
