INET-md researcher participates in Open Book
On the occasion of the celebration of the end of the academic year at FCSH NOVA, on May 21, 2026, INET-md researcher Andrew Snyder (guitar) performed with Claire Haas (trombone) as the duo Merge Left in collaboration with the dancers Magalie Lanriot (France) and Roel Q. Seeber (USA). The aerial dance performance on the external walls of the B Tower of NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, entitled “Open Book“, was inspired by the architecture of the building, which is meant to evoke an open book. The music was developed with the dancers, involving tonal and free improvisation based on the Brazilian choro “Ternura” (K-Ximbinho), which Andrew learned during his doctoral research in Brazil. As Andrew’s research has long involved the socio-political impacts of music making in public space, the performance presented an opportunity to put theoretical engagement into action.
