Rocío Chao Fernández
Biography
PhD from the University of Coruña, where she received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for her thesis The Teaching of Galician Folklore in Primary Schools in Galicia. She holds advanced degrees in Music Theory and Music Pedagogy, in addition to being a piano teacher. In parallel, she completed studies to become a Primary School Teacher, specializing in French and Spanish Language and Literature.
Currently, she is a Tenured PhD Lecturer in Music Education Didactics at the Faculty of Education of the University of A Coruña and serves as Secretary of the Department of Specific Didactics and Research and Diagnostic Methods in Education. She coordinates the Educational Innovation Group Methodological Innovation through ICT (IMETIC), part of the University of A Coruña’s 2017 Call for the Creation of Educational Innovation Groups.
Several of her works have been recognized with Educational Innovation Awards: Musichao, an educational music game (2003); Virtual Exhibition Dalí-Art-Dalí-Science-Dalí-Dream-Dalí-Reality-Dalí (2006); Women Composers: Marginalized Talents (2007).
She has taught courses related to her main lines of research: Music Didactics, women in the history of music and composition, Galician folklore, music learning from an interdisciplinary perspective, and educational technology.
She is the author of numerous high-impact publications (JCR, SJR, and top rankings in the SPI index), with significant influence as evidenced by the number of citations.
