Title “A formação académica do/a maestro/a no ensino superior: As lacunas entre os currículos e a atuação no Brasil e em Portugal”

Abstract The research focuses on the academic training of professionals in Brazil and Portugal. In my role as a conducting professor at the Federal University of Goiás (2018-2020) and currently, remotely in both countries, I have observed gaps in academic training. This perception emerged from reports of students who graduated from universities but still didn’t feel adequately prepared for professional practice. I believe that the curricula of these courses are disconnected from the local realities, as they were long inspired by North American models. It was in the United States, in the late 19th century, that many educators began investigating curriculum issues, leading to the emergence of a new field of study: curriculum studies (Moreira & Silva, 2002). Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the gaps in the current curricula of these two countries, develop ways to overcome them, propose new and updated curricula, and create a platform that can contribute to supplementing these technical and organizational competencies for the training and continuous education of new conductors.
