Francisco Martins

Francisco Bastos (Chico Bastos) is a PhD candidate in Artistic Creation at the University of Aveiro. He holds a Master’s degree in Sound and Image from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. His research explores the tenor guitar in contemporary creation, integrating extended techniques, live electronics, and sound spatialization. A musician, composer, and producer, he founded Clube do Choro Porto and develops projects funded by DGARTES and Ibermúsica.

Abstract
This artistic research project departs from the gradual disuse of the tenor guitar in contemporary music to propose its reinvention through expanded practices, integration with live electronics, and sound spatialization. The project articulates three axes: experimentation with extended techniques and preparations; development of interactive systems in Max/MSP and Ableton Live; creation of original works with octophonic spatialization, culminating in an immersive performative installation. The methodology is based on iterative cycles of practice, critical reflection, and multimedia documentation.
