Orientação

Abstract
This project proposes to investigate the guitar repertoire in Portugal between 1850 and 1950 through archival research processes within institutional and private networks, the editing of sheet music, and the performance of works using period instruments. The research aims to locate, collect, and catalogue this repertoire, systematizing the styles and formal genres found within it; to edit and record selected works with a view to their dissemination, the revitalization of the instrumental heritage of the period, and the creation of appropriate interpretative approaches; and to understand the relationship between the knowledge of post-1950 repertoire and the lack of information about the repertoire under study, in light of the phenomenon of silencing. In doing so, this investigation seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the history of the guitar in Portugal by addressing a century-long gap in which the presence, existence, and significance of this repertoire were diminished.
