Ágata Ricca
Born in Porto, Ágata has worked as a choral conductor/educator since 2011. In parallel, she has taught piano, music theory, and ensemble classes in several conservatories and music schools. She was a choir teacher for the Xiquitsi project in Mozambique between 2019 and 2022. Currently, she is part of the ARBO team at Visões Úteis as an Art Educator. She holds a degree in Communication Sciences (Journalism) from the University of Porto and a degree and master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the Lisbon Superior School of Music. She studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga. In 2017/18 she participated in the XIII Musical Animators Training Course of the Educational Service of Casa da Música and in 2024/25 she participated in the Global Choir Leadership course at the Sibelius Academy, Finland. She holds a PhD in Music (Conducting), from the University of Aveiro, where she was supervised by Paulo Maria Rodrigues and Inês Lamela, and was a scholarship holder from the Foundation for Science and Technology. She was a co-founder and member of the board of Coros Portugal – Portuguese Association for Choral Music between 2017 and 2023. In recent years, Ágata has dedicated herself to projects related to collective singing in different community contexts, always guided by the ethics of care as a way to promote well-being and empathy within groups and in society. She is a co-manager of the Espaço Cultural Jubilant in Porto.
