World Premiere of “V’s” by the “B’s”
On 23 July 2026, the Suggia Hall at Casa da Música hosted the world premiere of “V’s” by “B’s”, a work for symphony orchestra by Nuno Peixoto de Pinho, a researcher at INET-md.
The work opened the programme of the closing concert of the 16th National Training Programme of the Costa Cabral Academy of Music (AMCC) Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Cláudio Ferreira. Performed by an orchestra made up of young music students, the premiere provided a new generation of performers with direct contact with a contemporary work conceived for a large symphonic ensemble.
“V’s” by “B’s”, approximately 10 minutes in duration, was composed as part of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the classification of Porto’s Historic Centre as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The work draws on this symbolic universe and is conceived as a tribute to the city and to the elements that contribute to its identity. The Luiz I Bridge, the Serra do Pilar Monastery, the Douro River, its people, and the distinctive oral tradition of Porto all form part of the imagery that inspired the composition.
The work was commissioned by the Costa Cabral Academy of Music, in collaboration with maestro Cláudio Ferreira.
