Susana Figueiredo

Susana Pinho de Figueiredo turns the body into an object of study and a medium of creation. A path that has joined teaching, scientific research and artistic creation for over a decade.

Holding a PhD in Literary Studies from the University of Vigo (2018), recognised in Portugal as a Doctorate in Artistic Studies by the University of Coimbra (2026), she has been a member of the teaching staff at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro since 2013, where she teaches courses in dance, the body and dramatic expression. She also collaborates with the Jean Piaget School of Sport and Education in Vila Nova de Gaia, and serves as a collaborating researcher at the Centre for Literary Studies (CEL) and at INET-md – Institute of Ethnomusicology, Porto Research Hub for Music and Dance (CIPEM).

Her research addresses the relationship between the body, movement and educational, aesthetic and community processes, with particular attention to dance-theatre, street theatre and bodily expression as devices for inclusion and social intervention. She is the author of journal articles and book chapters on these subjects, published with international journals and publishers, and has presented her findings at national and international conferences.
She has been artistic director of dance and theatre productions for over a decade, signing the choreography of numerous creations presented at festivals and cultural institutions. In a path where knowledge becomes movement and movement becomes knowledge, teaching, research and creation converge into a single vocation: to think the body as a place of knowledge and of art.
