Sílvia Pinto Coelho
Choreographer and multidisciplinary artist, specialised in dance and choreographic thinking, she is a guest lecturer at Lusófona University – on the Actor Training course – and a researcher at ICNOVA – NOVA Institute of Communication.
She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, a degree in Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in Dance. She teaches practical and theoretical seminars related to the performing arts as artistic research. As a choreographer and dancer, she has worked with various dance styles and techniques, including composition and improvisation. Since 1996, she has presented her own choreographic pieces and participated in research, teaching and film projects with collaborators from various fields.
Her research focuses on ‘Attention’ and ‘Choreographic Thinking’, themes she explores in an interdisciplinary manner. At ICNOVA, she is part of the Performance and Cognition group, served on the editorial board of the online magazine INTERACT (2019-2024), and led the artistic research project Procrastination School.
She participates in informal groups for the discussion of art, thought and activism, such as baldio-performance studies, AND_Lab, SenseLab, Transpensar and Es.Col.Az.
In 2025-2026, she will work on the publication of a thematic edition for the communication and languages magazine on attention movements, based on the conference Cadences, Attentional Moves in the Artes and Everyday Life, and will write a book based on the ‘Procrastination School’ project.
At INET-md, she intends to collaborate with the “Power, Politics and Activism” research line and with the “Performance Creation and Artistic Research”, and “Dance Studies” groups.
