Biography

Rosa Maria Barros holds a PhD in Child Studies, with a specialization in Artistic Education, from the University of Minho. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and a Master’s degree in Music Teaching, specializing in Theory and Musical Training, from the Higher Institute of Intercultural and Transdisciplinary Studies of Viseu. From 2022 to 2024, she was a research fellow at the Research Center in Psychology of Music and Music Education (CIPEM) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, where she contributed to the project “This Wouldn’t Be the Same Without the Professional Music Schools: Thirty Years of Professional Music Education in Portugal.” She plays an active role in the field of research in arts education, particularly in music, as an integrated member of the INET-md|CIPEM Research Center. She is also part of the editorial team of the journal Música, Psicologia e Educação, which is affiliated with the CIPEM research unit at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. Since 2014, she has been serving as an invited assistant professor in the Master’s program in Music Teaching, as well as in the Bachelor’s programs in Music Education and Social Education at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. Her experience spans teaching in Specialized Artistic Education in Music, Dance, and Theatre, as well as in kindergartens. She has expanded her knowledge and skills in music education for babies, children, and young people through various training programs, years of professional experience, and the development of several artistic projects (e.g., Palmo e Meio de Música). In addition to her academic contributions, she demonstrates a strong commitment to community and cultural engagement, having participated as a volunteer in the Som da Rua project at Casa da Música in Porto. Her professional experience also includes producing various artistic projects in partnership with educational and cultural institutions. This enriching experience reflects not only her passion for music but also her dedication to sharing knowledge with a diverse and inclusive audience.
