Maria João Alves

Biography

Maria João Alves completed her PhD in Dance in 2007 at the Faculty of Human Kinetics, University of Lisbon, where she had previously obtained a Master’s degree in Performing Arts/Dance (1998) and a Bachelor’s degree in Dance (1995). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the same institution, where she also serves on the Scientific Council, the Pedagogical Council, and the Ethics Council. In addition, she is the Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Estud(i)os de Dança (RED). Her research interests lie within the Humanities, with a particular focus on the Performing Arts and Dance Studies, exploring themes such as collective improvisation in dance, choreographic composition, and mixed-methods research approaches.
