Leonor Losa

Researcher in ethnomusicology and cultural studies of music, whose work focuses on forms of reception, representation and cultural signification of recorded music, on the history of the recording industry in Portugal, and on the relationships between capitalism, politics and musical creativity. She is currently developing research on forms of imagination, memory and the production of historicity through sound and music, with particular attention to voice, expressivity and intersubjectivity. She is the author of Machinas Fallantes… (2014), co‑author of Orfeu: Visual and Critical Catalogue… (2024), and a contributor to several edited volumes. Her work for the Encyclopedia of Music in Portugal in the Twentieth Century opened the way to successive funded projects, in particular the INET‑md projects Orfeu: Politics and Aesthetics of Modern Portugal and The Recording Industry in Portugal in the Twentieth Century, in which she was a researcher. In 2022 she joined CEIS20 – the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Coimbra, where she was a full‑time invited assistant professor (2022–2024) in the Department of Artistic Studies. She maintains a strong commitment to the Portuguese scientific community: she served on the board of the Portuguese Society for Music Research (2015–2023) and, since 2023, has been co‑editor‑in‑chief of the Portuguese Journal of Musicology (RPM).
