Biography

Doctorate in Music from the Universidade de Aveiro and M.Sc. in Music Education from the University of Minho, with additional certification as a Specialist in Music from the Consortium of Polytechnic Institutes. His expertise in the Orff-Schulwerk approach is internationally acclaimed, developed through extensive scientific and pedagogical training across Austria, Brazil, Canada, Slovakia, Spain, the United States, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, Hungary, England, Italy, Latvia, and Sweden. He has been awarded scholarships from prestigious organizations, including the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA), the Carl Orff Foundation / Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg, and the Asociación Orff España.

Since 2020, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Municipal Theatre of Bragança and has been an Adjunct Professor in the Arts Department at the School of Education, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, since 2008. From 2019 to 2022, he held the position of National Coordinator for the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) in Portugal. He is an Integrated Researcher at INET-md, the Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança at the Universidade of Aveiro, and a Collaborating Researcher at CIEB – Centre for Studies in Basic Education at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança.

From 2018 to 2020, he was the Local Ambassador for the Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program (PEEA), by invitation from the Directorate-General for Education of the Portuguese Ministry of Education. With two decades of experience teaching Music and Music Education at all levels, from Pre-School to Secondary Education, he is also a Teacher Trainer in these areas.

A published author of books, book chapters, articles, and conference papers, he has contributed to national and international conferences, congresses, and symposia (Austria, Brazil, Spain, the United States, Finland, Greece, England, Latvia, and Sweden). His research interests focus on the Orff-Schulwerk approach, a pedagogical method that fosters the holistic development of the human person by integrating Language, Music, Movement, and Dance.

In addition to his academic and research career, he founded the Senior University of Vinhais (RUTIS) in 2014, where he continues to volunteer as both Professor and Director, contributing actively to the educational enrichment of the senior community.
