Weaving improvisation across bodies and words: interaction, imagination, and collaborative creation.

Rita Rato | INET-md, FMH
Mônnica Emilio | INET-md, FMH

Co-organized by Rita Rato (GIED/INET-md) and Mônnica Emilio (GIED/INET-md), this seminar will feature artist-researchers Dudude Herrmann (BR), Lígia Tourinho (BR), and Rita Vilhena (PT).

Improvisation runs through contemporary dance practices as a territory of listening, attention, and choice in the present moment, configuring itself as a relational field in which bodies, environments, and affects are mutually implicated, opening space for singular modes of presence and creation.

We propose a space for encounter and reflection on improvisation in dance, inviting artist-researchers to share perspectives on dynamics of interaction and on possible connections between verbal and bodily language in contemporary creative processes.

Between word and movement, we are interested in discussing how the images generated in this intertwining can move through the body in action. Improvisation thus emerges as a practice of the “in-between”: a space where gesture is built through the sensible, the tacit, and imagination, producing forms of communication that escape representation and affirm themselves as shared experience.
