PERMANENT SEMINAR ON MUSIC ACOUSTICS AND SOUND STUDIES
The Permanent Seminar of the research group on Music Acoustics and Sound Studies of INET-md intends to be a forum where all its members (integrated and collaborators), as well as other invited researchers from the academic, cultural and artistic circles, may present their work and discuss ongoing interdisciplinary projects and research, intertwining science, technology and music, and promoting collaborations.

REVERBDATA – acquisition, characterisation, and preservation of Acoustic Heritage
Diogo Alarcão | ESML-IPL
REVERBDATA is an unique open online repository of Acoustic Heritage data of significant Portuguese heritage spaces, including several UNESCO classified ones, considering their acoustic, architectural, cultural and functional importance. Exemplary spaces are the Monastery of Jerónimos, Batalha and Alcobaça, Convent of Christ, National Palace of Mafra, National Pantheon, São Carlos National Theatre, and the National Parliament. The database contains detailed acoustic information consisting of acquisitions in the form of multichannel RIRs that are recorded at various points within these spaces, optimally processed and added to the database, which is accessible through a navigation interface and to enable immersive sound reproduction via FFT convolution reverb, for example. Currently, REVERBDATA contains more than 2798 high-resolution impulse responses in formats such as AB stereo, Binaural and 1st, 2nd and 3rd order Ambisonics, referring to 313 locations in 40 significant spaces.
Diogo Alarcão | Has a degree in Engineering Physics and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the topic of Room Acoustics and Virtual Acoustics (IST – University of Lisbon). He is an Assistant Professor of the Lisbon School of Music (Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon) in the area of Music Technologies. Diogo is an integrated member of CESEM – Group for research in contemporary music, and also a researcher of the Group of Acoustics and Noise Control of IST, where is has been a principal researcher for many years. His area of expertise is acoustics of enclosed and open spaces. He was responsible for the “Virtusound” project (real-time acoustic simulation and auralization of virtual spaces) and for the projects “ACUSVMOTTA – Determination of the objective acoustic quality of the Vianna da Motta Auditorium of ESML” and “AURA3D – 3D Auralization”.
