On 16 May (Saturday), the XI INET-md Forum will take place at the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro, this year under the theme Modes of (Inter)listening.
The opening session will be led by the PhD students’ committee, in collaboration with the Post-IP group, in a move that highlights the importance of collaboration between generations and research profiles within our community.
Our guest speaker will be António de Sousa Dias (FBAUL, CIEBA), a composer and creator whose practice is characterised by the intersection of music, sound creation and intermedia. His lecture, “Artistic creation and research in the territories of the ‘in-between’”, proposes “a reflection on the relationship between artistic creation and research from the perspective of the territories of the ‘in-between’: spaces in which categories such as theory and practice, sound and music, work and process are no longer sufficient to describe certain ways of working”. Drawing on examples from his own practice, he will discuss “how certain artistic processes not only stimulate reflection, but constitute forms of thought, experimentation and knowledge production in their own right”.
The programme also includes a series of performances organised by the Creation, Performance and Artistic Research group, with a particular focus on projects developed by PhD students from the University of Aveiro’s Doctoral Programme in Music, centred on Portugal’s musical heritage—past, present and future. This showcase reflects INET-md’s unique position as a pioneering institution in artistic research in Portugal and the significance of the large number of performers and creators it brings together. In addition, a selection of documentary and artistic videos linked to the unit’s research will be screened, offering an overview of the diversity of the work we carry out. The forum will conclude with a panel discussion dedicated to the present and future challenges facing INET-md’s thematic areas.
