The Permanent Seminar of the research group Historical and Cultural Studies in Music of INET-md intends to be a forum where all its members (integrated and collaborators), as well as other invited researchers from the academic, cultural and artistic circles, may present their work and discuss ongoing projects and research.

AML at 75: A World Community of Music Librarians, Archivists and Information Specialists
Rupert Ridgewell | President of the International Association of Music Libraries (IAML) and Chief Curator of Printed Music, British Library
The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) was founded in 1951 under the auspices of UNESCO. It represents the only international association for music information specialists, with some 1600 members in 40 countries worldwide, and with national branches formally established in 25 countries. IAML is a very welcoming and active body, and it draws strength from the knowledge and experiences of colleagues working in a variety of professional contexts. This presentation will offer an introduction to IAML, focusing on the unique role the association plays within the musical ecosystem globally. Following an outline of IAML’s history and mission, the presentation will give an overview of current activities, including events to celebrate the association’s 75th anniversary. It will also highlight IAML’s important role as a sponsor of the four ‘R’ projects (RISM, RILM, RIPM and RIdIM), which are major research tools documenting musical sources, literature and iconography worldwide, and the various ways in which IAML advocates for the profession via collaboration with other library and music organisations. Finally, the session will outline benefits of IAML membership and the many ways in which colleagues can get involved with IAML, from attending the annual congress and regular online events, to participating in the work of professional sections, committees, and project groups.
Rupert Ridgewell | Lead Curator of Printed Music at the British Library in London, where he is responsible for a collection of some 1.6 million items of printed music. Among several professional appointments, he was elected in 2023 as President of the International Association of Music Libraries (IAML) and in 2019 as a member of the Akademie für Mozartforschung of the Stiftung Mozarteum, Salzburg. His research interests encompass topics associated with the cultural history of music publishing from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, with particular emphasis on Mozart and the publishing trade in Vienna around 1800. He is the recipient of research grants from the British Academy, the Bibliographical Society, the Newberry Library, and the Music Libraries Trust, and in 2009 was awarded the Richard S. Hill Award by the Music Library Association.
