On the 10th of April, Hugo Castro, INET-md researcher, presented his book A cantiga só é arma quando a luta acompanhar! Canção e política na Revolução dos Cravos (1974-1976) (Afrontamento, 2025), in an event at the Bibliothèque – Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian, in Paris, featuring the historian João Madeira (IHC). Focusing on the revolutionary period and the democratic transition that followed the overthrow of the dictatorship in Portugal, this book examines the role of several singers, including former exiles in France.

The event, held in Portuguese, was attended by around 25 people.

João Madeira and Hugo Castro are both members of EXIMUS project team.

This event was partially financed with national funds through the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., within the project EXIMUS: “We must warn everyone”: Music and Portuguese exile in France during the Estado Novo regime (1933-1974), reference 2022.05129.PTDC, DOI: 10.54499/2022.05129.PTDC.
