Abstract
“Maria de Buenos Aires Revisited” is a re-creation of the operetta by the Piazzolla-Ferrer duo that proposes an alternative to conventional interpretations of this work, exploring the scenic dimension to achieve a better balance between the musical and textual aspects. The unusual fragmentation imposed by the fixed structure of the 17 frames is thus challenged, ensuring continuity in the presentation of the work with its multiplicity of meanings. This re-creation explores the interaction between music, dance, dramatic action, the multimodal presentation of the poetic text, and also the multi-tasking skills of the artists who sing, play, and recite, but also dance – the character of Maria is played by a Tango dancer of the highest level – and act out scenes.
