Abstract
The project “Margens” aims to explore, through musical creation and performance, the concept of the margin as a space that surrounds and delineates, as well as a metaphor for peripheral situations or discrimination. Both meanings may refer, directly or indirectly, to issues of sustainability, exclusion/inclusion, and innovation.
“Margens” will engage in the re-examination of traditions and musical practices associated with marginal or peripheral contexts, the integration of materials collected within the communities connected to the project team, and the exploration of compositional and performance techniques as the basis for the creation of four new works by Ângela da Ponte, Francisco Ribeiro, Rui Penha, and Sara Carvalho. These works will be presented in concerts and related events in Portugal and Spain by the Borealis Ensemble, comprising António Carrilho, Helena Marinho, Henrique Portovedo, and Nuno Aroso.
