Edward Ayres de Abreu

Biography

Edward Ayres de Abreu is a musicologist, composer, and manager. He holds degrees from Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Composition), Universidade NOVA (Musical Sciences, Masters and PhD), and AESE Business School (Executive MBA). His academic career has been supported by scholarships from the Foundation for Science and Technology, Imprensa Nacional — Casa da Moeda, and AESE Business School.

As a musicologist, he has won the 2nd Prize in the Otto Mayer-Serra Competition and the Joaquim de Vasconcelos Prize. He has collaborated with prestigious organizations such as Gulbenkian Music, Casa da Música, and the National Theater of São Carlos. He founded and directed the MPMP, a distinguished platform that won the Sequeira Costa Music Award.

He is now a member of the Board of the Portuguese Society for Research in Music, and since September 2022 he is the Director of the Portuguese National Museum of Music.
