Bart Vanspauwen
Biography
Doctor and Master in Ethnomusicology at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa; Postgraduate in Cultural Studies with an emphasis on Postcolonial Anthropology and Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Comparative Literature, both at Catholic University of Leuven (KUL).
Bart conducted research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and field research in Recife, Maputo, and Lisbon.
For his PhD thesis, he analyzed the role of postcolonial music festivals in Lisbon in the promotion of lusophone cultures as well as their tourist potential. In parallel, he has been working on the nexus of cultural governance and corporate branding in postcolonial flag carriers such as TAP Air Portugal. He currently studies Afro-Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian cultural relations.
Bart has been a member of INET-md since 2009, serving as an integrated researcher since 2017.
