Raízes – Canções feirenses: um projeto de recuperação cultural a partir do contexto escolar

Tiago Manuel da Hora and Nuno Peixoto de Pinho, integerated researchers at INET-md, co-author the article “Raízes – Canções feirenses: um projeto de recuperação cultural a partir do contexto escolar“, published in open access by Revista Sinergias: Diálogos educativos para a transformação social.

Abstract:

Raízes – Canções Feirenses (Roots – Songs from Santa Maria da Feira) is a project that was created in 2016 at the Santa Maria da Feira Music Academy. It exemplifies the transformative potential of the convergence of research, teaching, and artistic practice. In the absence of a published repertoire alluding to Feira’s heritage, the project focused on researching, recovering, revisiting and creating musical works and integrating them into specialised music teaching. Using interdisciplinary methodologies combining ethnomusicology, archival research, historical musicology, creation and interpretation, the project engaged students, teachers, the community and researchers in active participation. The results included cataloguing and digitally editing the repertoire, promoting public performances of this requalified cultural heritage and composing new works based on literary texts to enrich Feira’s musical heritage. This article describes the practices and the pedagogical and cultural impact of the Raízes project, which is an exemplary model for integrating the arts into education and using them as a vehicle for social transformation.
