Abstract (in Portuguese only):
In 1966, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon, Portugal) wrote a new chapter in the history of Portuguese music with the Portugaliae Musica record series, the first dedicated to the pre-romantic Portuguese repertoire, with first recordings of works that were a revelation! It was also a revelation to see the place that the study of recordings has taken in today’s historiography of musical life over the last 100 years. Sound recordings are important historical sources, bringing together two realities and historical moments: the sound of the musical works and their modern performance. The manuscript music collection of the Ajuda Library is a treasure of Portugal’s musical heritage from the late Ancien Régime. The recordings of musical sources from this collection constitute a considerable corpus within the Portuguese discography of the last 60 years and reflect the umbilical link between performance practice and musicology present in the recovery and revival of this heritage, as well as allowing us to identify the dynamics of the publication of these sources. From the Portugaliae Musica series to the renewed interest that has been seen in the last two decades, there is a journey of more than half a century, indispensable for the history of musical production around this historical heritage.
