Cristina Fernandes, full researcher at INET-md and coordinator of the Historical and Cultural Studies in Music research group, participated in the commemorative book for the 40th anniversary of Miso Music Portugal (Sentem Sem Som Cem Sons Sempre, eds. Jakub Szczypa, Maria da Paz Carvalho and Pedro Boléo, 2025) with the chapter entitled “Das utopias à realidade: olhares sobre o papel da associação Miso Music no meio musical português a partir da imprensa periódica” (“From Utopias to Reality: Perspectives on the Role of the Miso Music Association in the Portuguese Musical Environment from the Perspective of the Periodical Press”).

Over the past 40 years, Miso Music Portugal has contributed with remarkable persistence to helping fill important gaps in the creation, performance, dissemination, and circulation of contemporary music. Based on the repercussions of Miso Music’s multiple activities in the periodical press, this text seeks to discuss the role of this cultural association (born from the Miso Ensemble, a flute and percussion duo created by Miguel Azguime and Paula Azguime in 1985) in several areas, such as the support for Portuguese composers, programming (especially the Música Viva Festival), internationalization, and the preservation and dissemination of the heritage of Portuguese music from the 20th and 21st centuries.
