Abstract
CISE aims to recognize the legacy of Cesária Évora as a woman and as a singer who achieved a unique place in a predominantly male musical tradition. The main goal of CISE is to locate, systematize, and analyze documents that allow mapping the paths and discourses of and about Cesária. In this way, it will be possible to understand the unique role played by Cise in the music universe and how she paved the way for other women and singers. To achieve this goal, it was necessary to: 1) trace and systematize information scattered in different places in different countries, 2) analyze Cesária’s musical paths in Cape Verde and Europe, 3) understand individual and collective perceptions of Cesária’s role conveyed, especially by the written, radio, and television press, and 4) create a database in DUnAs – the Research Data Repository of University of Aveiro.
