On 15 and 16 September 2025, the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Brazil, will host an international workshop based on the book Postcolonial Aeromobilities: Branding, Cultural Governance, and Tourism Imageries (Routledge, 2025), co-edited by researchers Bart Vanspauwen (INET-md, NOVA FCSH) and Iñigo Sánchez (Institute of Heritage Sciences, INCIPIT-CSIC).
At the invitation of Carolina Castellitti (UERJ), one of the authors who contributed to the work, the event will also promote the official launch of the book, in an event that is expected to be rich in discussions at the intersection of the fields of tourism, geography, history, communication, administration, and social sciences.
The launch is scheduled for 16 September at the Department of Tourism of the Maracanã campus of UERJ (Auditorium 91, Maracanã campus).
Bart Vanspauwen, co-organiser of the event, will also co-host, with Lucas Gamonal Barra de Almeida (UERJ), the workshop “Tourism, Cultural Production and Marketing”, scheduled for 15 September, which aims to explore how tourism, cultural production and marketing intersect in the construction of contemporary identities. Participants will discuss how airlines, destinations and cultural agents shape travel imaginaries, branding strategies and narratives of heritage in post-colonial contexts.
