Bart Vanspauwen and Iñigo Sánchez, respectively integrated researcher and colaborator of INET-md, were invited by Carolina Castelliti (Rio de Janeiro State University – UERJ) to the official launch of their book Postcolonial Aeromobilities (Routledge, 2025), which took place at the Department of Tourism, Maracanã campus of UERJ, in Rio de Janeiro, on September 16, 2025.

At the request of the editors, Mariana Paludi, Melina Piglia, and Carolina Castelliti–who all
contributed a chapter to the book–were also invited on stage to share their impressions.
On the day before the launch, Bart co-hosted (together with Lucas Gamonal, from UERJ) the
workshop: “Tourism, Cultural Production and Marketing.” This session, inviting MA and PhD
students, aimed to explore how tourism, cultural production, and marketing intersect in the
construction of contemporary identities and heritage narratives in postcolonial contexts.
On the day following the launch, the academic debate continued at the Department of Sociology
of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), where Cristiano Monteiro organized a roundtable entitled: “Culture, mobility and national representation in postcolonial contexts: an interdisciplinary perspective,” with the participation of Mariana Paludi, Melina Piglia, and MA and PhD students at UFF.
At this roundtable, Bart presented his recent article “Brazil in TAP” (2025) as well the 2023
chapter “Embracing Postcolonial Diversity,” co-authored with Iñigo Sánchez, both focused on
Portuguese flag carrier TAP Air Portugal.
