Participation in the IAML 2025 International Congress

As part of the thematic line Heritage(s), Archives and Museums
Maria João Albuquerque, Jorge Alexandre Costa, and José Carlos Mateus took part in the International Congress of IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres), held in Salzburg from 6 to 11 July 2025.
Their presentation, entitled Unlocking the Archives: Methodologies for Preserving and Sharing the Florbela Espanca Library’s Music Collections, reflected the first outcomes of a collaborative project led by the INET-md branches at CIPEM (School of Education, Polytechnic Institute of Porto) and NOVA FCSH, in partnership with the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library (BMFE) in Matosinhos, which focuses on identifying, preserving, and promoting neglected music archives in generalist institutions, to ensure public access through education, exhibitions, publications, and performance. This project falls within the thematic line Heritage(s), Archives and Museums, one of INET-md’s four transversal research axes, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration around cultural and musical heritage.
At the same time, the team took an active role in the meetings and workshops organized by RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between this leading international organization for music documentation and INET-md. During these sessions, final discussions were held with RISM President Balázs Mikusi, paving the way for the formal establishment of the INET-md RISM Working Group. This group will focus on specialized training, applied research, and the systematic inclusion of Portuguese musical sources in RISM’s international reference catalogue.
Participation in this conference marked an important step in strengthening scientific cooperation networks between INET-md, RISM, and other international counterparts, such as RIPM and IAML. It also reaffirmed INET-md’s ongoing commitment to the preservation, study, and dissemination of Portuguese musical heritage, promoting its recognition and value on a global scale.
