José Carlos Mateus

José Carlos Mateus began his musical studies in 2002, as a student at the Seminário Maior de Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the diocese of Porto, with Dr. António Ferreira dos Santos, and with professors Tadeu Filipe and António Mário Costa. In 2006 interrupted his integrated master’s degree in Theology at the Universidade Católica, and, in the next year ingressed the Faculdade de Letras of the Universidade do Porto in the degree of Art History. He graduated with a master’s degree in Art History in Portugal in 2013, with the thesis “Virgo – A Escultura de Invocação Mariana do Museu de Arte Sacre a Arqueologia do Porto”, supervised by professor Nuno Resende. At the same time, between 2007 and 2013, he continued his musical studies in the Escola Diocesana de Música Litúrgica of the diocese of Porto.

In 2017, he completed Curso Secundário in Singing in the class of professor Deolinda Resende at the Escola de Música Óscar da Silva. In 2021, conclued a degree in Music, with a specialization in Early Music, particularly in Baroque Singing, at the Escola de Música e Artes do Espetáculo of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto in the class of professor Magna Ferreira.

Currently is enroled in a master’s in Ensino de Música – Formação Musical in Escola Superior de Educação of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto.

Began in 2024, a inventory and cataloging project of the musical heritage of composer Óscar da Silva in the music collections and funds of the Florbela Espanca municipal library, in Matosinhos, while holding a scholarship from the INET-md/CIPEM.
