Biography

Renata Carvalho Andrade was born in 1983, has a college degree in Dance from the Federal University of Sergipe, Brazil in 2010 with a major in Art-Education from the Faculty Sao Luis de Franca (Sergipe, Brazil) has a Master's Degree in Artistic Performance - Dance from The Faculty of Human Kinetics (University of Lisbon, 2013) and is a PhD student in Human Kinetics – Dance from the University of Lisbon. Her investigations focus in contemporary dance and it's relation with tradition. She worked as director, choreographer and dancer of the Rosa Negra Dance Group for six years in Aracaju Brazil, highlighting the works Gesto and Canto Pra Ela (2010 and 2011, respectively). As a soloist, she produced the works: Fragmentos de Choros e Canções, presented at the 15th International Dance Festival of Recife in 2010; Mares, 2011 and Por Entre Modigliani e Outras Intimidades, premiered at the Cubes Center of Culture and Arts in Aracaju, and also presented at the 20th Quinzena de Dança de Almada (International Festival of Contemporary Dance) and Cordão, premiered at Book Store Ler Devagar, in Lisbon. In 2016, Omo Oyá was first presented in partnership with Michelle Pereira. From 2012 to 2014, she participated in the Contemporary Dance Research Center at the Faculty of Human Kinetics (Portugal), directed by Professor Ana Macara. Since 2015 she has been an Art Teacher at the Silvio Romero State School in Lagarto, Brazil.
