Professor of saxophone at the Professional Conservatory of Music in Palencia, Spain. He studied at the Salamanca and Alcalá de Henares Conservatories. He got his bachelor degree at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid and his Master of Arts in Soloist Performance at the Centro Superior de Música Katarina Gurska. He participated in the courses of the Université Européenne d'été pour le saxophone, in Gap, France (2004 y 2005). In 2006 he was awarded with a grant to participate in the Internacional Master class for Saxophone in Laubach, Germany. In 2008 he got the Pedagogical Aptitude Certificate at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He did postgraduate studies at the CSMA with Arno Bonrkamp, Claude Delangle and Jean Denis Michat, as well as he attended classes regularly with Jean-Marie Londeix, Vincent David, Christian Wirth, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, etc. He debuted as soloist in 2002, playing the A. Glazounov's saxophone Concerto at the Cervantes' Theater in Alcalá de Henares. He has participated several times with the InterSchools Orchestra of New York and the Madrid Symphonic Orchestra, among others, and played with conductors such as Adrian Leaper, George Pehlivanian and Johan de Meij. He has performed in emblematic places such as the Auditorio Nacional de España, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, Auditorio de Cibeles as well as in U.S.A., Poland, France, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Germany, etc. He has recorded for Radio Clásica (Radio Nacional de España), Televisión Española (La 2) and Antonio Gala Foundation. He was awarded in the "Vítor Santos" Saxophone competition (2009) in Palmela (Portugal) and with the prize "Premio Corazón de la Mancha a la trayectoria artística 2012". He has been Selmer and Vandoren artist since 2011. Nowadays he is developing his thesis at the Universidade de Aveiro, in the speciality of Performance.
Title: "Saxophone PlayInk: Timbre Expressiveness on the recreation and cocreation processes of the saxophonistic repertoire"
The word game included on the concept Saxophone PlayInk refers to a double interpretation that resumes the spirit of this research project. Firstly the performance of the saxophone as the main subject of the artistic practice and secondly the discussion that rises up around the performance of the repertoire of this instrument through two ways: one facing the score already written -Recreation- and other next to the contribution that the performer can offer during the colaboration with the composer -Cocreation-. We can find a big lacuna on the academic research around performance practice of the contemporary repertoires; particularly expressiveness field has been gone in depth very little. Therefore, the discussion that is part of the project, departs from a hypothesis in relation to this question: the concept of timbre expressiveness. This proposal arises from the research around the expressiveness on the more traditional repertoires and expects to be reinforced during the first part of the thesis. The second part -recreation processes- comes from the empiric application of the discussed concepts on remarkable pieces -as to their performative demand and, in the other hand, with their artistic and aesthetic contribution- of the instrument. The third part -cocreation processes- comprises the contribution or inspiration that the knowledge of the idiomatism of the instrument by the performer -derived from the previous experimentation- can grant to the composer through the systematic collaboration with a group of selected composers, all of them chosen because of their astounding careers as well as personal and artistic affinity. The last part expects to agglutinate the analysis of the results -premieres, recordings and scores editions- of the dissertation.
