Since 2015, Dora Utermohl de Queiroz is a cello professor at the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil). Currently, she is a PhD music student at the University of Aveiro. Dora has a master's degree in music and a bachelor's degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (exchange period at the University of Minho, Portugal). She is interested in the following research areas: music performance, string teaching in groups, self-regulated learning and online teaching and learning. She coordinated the projects “Grupo de Violoncelos da UFC”; “Oficinas de Violoncelo”; and joint supervised the artistic groups “Camerata de Cordas de UFC” and “Orquestra de Cordas de UFC” (2017-2019). She acted as an invited teacher at the festivals: “II and IIIVioloncelos em Folia”, “Festival Eurochestries”, “Festival Eleazar de Carvalho”, “Mostra de Violoncelos de Natal”, “Festival Música em Casa (FIMUCA)” and “Oficina de Ensino Coletivo de Cordas Friccionadas do Departamento de Música da Universidade de Brasília”. She worked in the organization of several Brazilian music festivals as: IV Mostra de Violoncelos de Natal; Festival Nany Devos; VI Encontros Musicais da UFC - Nordeste 2016; I Encontro de Música Instrumental da UFC; MAIS CELLOS - I Mostra de Violoncelos da UFC; I, II, III e IVEncontro de Cordas Flausino Valle. She is member of the research group “Grupo de Estudos sobre Violino, Viola, Violoncelo e Contrabaixo- GRUVIO” since 2019, based in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - Brazil.

Online Teaching and Learning of String Instruments: Implementation of a Program to Promote Self-Regulated Learning in Cello Lessons

This research project is based on the assumption that the online teaching and learning modality requires a greater degree of self-regulation in students, since the teacher is physically and temporally distant. Composed of two phases, the present research project intends to explore the characteristics, potentialities and limits of the online teaching and learning of string instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass) proposing self-regulated learning as a theoretical framework. The first phase of the research seeks to understand what are the knowledge bases necessary for string teachers to carry out teaching and learning in the online modality through a multi-case study. The second phase corresponds to an action research and consists of conducting online cello lessons and planning and implementing the self-regulation promotion program. This project will involve higher education institutions from three countries: Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal. At the end of this research, it is intended to achieve results that, in addition to contributing to obtaining the necessary knowledge for string teachers to work in the online modality, can also collaborate with the optimization of the learning processes that occur in this modality.
