I am a Shakuhachi Master and European PhD candidate of the Doctoral Program in Music at the University of Aveiro with the accepted thesis project ‘Aesthetic interlocution of the basic principles of hôgaku and its mediation in the re-contextualized creation using the shakuhachi’.
I studied the shakuhachi in Japan under Kaoru Kakizakai getting my Shakuhachi Master degree (shakuhachi shihan) there in 2004, obtaining later an Ethnomusicology Bachelor in Barcelona, Spain.
Currently I am professor at the Musicology department at the Catalonia College of Music (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), and coordinator of their Asian Music Program.
I have researched on diverse topics related to Japanese music and now focus on Aesthetic of sound in Japanese Music and have created and coordinates the GRINMA (Asian Music Research Group). As an artist have an active career as a performer in hōgaku (classical/traditional Japanese music), Western Classical Contemporary Music and other projects with dance, theatre or poetry. I have recorded 2 solo albums as well as several other collaborations and is acting as soloist for the Spanish National Orchestra for the premier of Desert, concert for shakuhachi and orchestra in June 2019.
On 2017 I have curated the yearlong exhibition ‘Eolssigu! The Sounds of Korea’ for the Barcelona Music Museum and edited a book with the same title with authors such as Dr. Keith Howard and Dr. Simon Mills among others.
I also develop an intense activity as divulgator of Asian Musical practices not only related to the shakuhachi but to Japanese Music and other Asian Musical practices.
