Jorge Salgado Correia studied Philosophy and Music at universities in Portugal, Holland and England, completing his PhD in 2003, at the University of Sheffield, UK. As a flautist, he specialises in contemporary music and has given numerous premieres, including works which have been written specifically for him. Throughout his career, Jorge has performed in countries throughout Europe, South America and in the USA, has participated in various television and radio programmes and has recorded several CDs. He plays in diverse ensembles, including the PERFORMA ENSEMBLE – a laboratory of creation and performance. In addition to his activities as a solo flautist and a chamber musician, Jorge lectures at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. As a researcher, he has published a range of articles in journals such as Psychology of Music, in addition to book chapters which have been published by Oxford University Press. He is a member of the Institute for Ethnomusicology – Research Centre for Studies in Music and Dance, where he coordinates the Research Group for Performance Studies and Performance as Artistic Research. He is the President of the Portuguese Flute Association.
